Kivipallur is a serious sports game about the Estonian national athlete Jürto, a multiple-time world- and olympic champion in the sport of kivipall (stoneball). As a kivipallur, Jürtos’ goal is to hit rocks with his head and legs, thus pleasing the audience and gaining fame. Rocks are thrown by his charming wife Ümbi. Kivipallur is a pretty smart guy but every rock he doesn’t hit perfectly, lowers his IQ. The lower his IQ, the more fame points he gains. However, once Jürto’s IQ drops to that of a vegetable, the game is lost.

Gather fame by pain and suffering!

Controls: Arrows to move, X to headkick, Z to legkick

Game by Kert Mõttus, Carol Schults, Triin Tens, Jakob Mass and August Varustin.

Theme

It sort of fits

It fits the theme, in a general way. As I see it the trade-off as currency is between IQ/Life and Fame and to max out on Fame you need to sacrifice IQ at opportune times. I do not, however, have anything to do with the Fame I gather (except for the high score). I would have liked to see something I could use the Fame for as well.

There wasn't much exchange, but I loved the tie-in to sports culture/athlete value.

Teemale on pihta saadud, meeldis käsitlus.

Theme and game are connected well!

Didn't see the connection with life and currency at all

The balancing of IQ and HP brings an interesteing dynamic.

Certainly an odd interpretation, but you do exchange your life points for something! Perhaps too literal and obvious in its approach, at least when it comes to the main gameplay loop. It relies more on the presentation.

Enjoyment

Its very good to play as an comedian in the game

The controls are not enjoyable at all. The game is not boring, but rather frustrating. I can't plan my movements ahead which gives a clunky feel. In addition, having two different movement systems for the different axes (horizontal/vertical) is really tough the learn and balance as a player.

Something about head bumping heavy rocks feel satisfying...

right left movement could be just a tad bit faster, would make some catches unimpossible

Difficult to sort out where to go, but fun to figure it out (watch the shadows!)

Helid olid head, liikumine kohmakas: kujutan ette et siin on ägeda mängu põhi olemas.

It's a funny game but maybe just not my preferred genre

Did not find any keys (in the game) other than arrow keys for movement.

Couldn't get the game mechanics to work

the left-right movement is slooooooooow, i found it more useful to just wait for rocks to fall near me and movefrom the front to the back and so on.

It feels and runs fine, although the slight input lag in doing your moves is kinda frustrating, especially when it comes to kick/head. If you have a movement key pressed the action doesn't want to start. The Jürto is slow and lumbering, obviously, so you have to pick the location and timings well, which is a challenge (both in a good and an annoying way).

It's strangely addicting.

Aesthetics

The sounds are perfect to the game

Everything is nice and coherent! I actually don't have much to say, other than that the selection of assets could have been more varied or contrasting perhaps.

Nice anims

Art and sound was nice.

It was delightfully detailed, even though it was very painful. I loved the background ads and also the main characters' love.

Heli oli väga mõnus, kunsti puhul oli ühtlane osa tore. Meeldis, et jalgpallur lagunes.

The art, the animation in the beginning, the voice acting all go well together.

Solid aesthetic, but target audience is very small.

Fitting audio and art but nothing exceptional

Okay, the final graphics were superb and made me chuckle.

Nothing particularly involved going on at the story department, but the art and audio do most of the heavy lifting. The simple yet grotesque art style works well, for an odd, humorous, violent game. As noted elsewhere, the input lag related animation stuff is a tiny bit annoying. The sound effects range from great grossness to odd weirdness, which is a solid plus. Extra plus for high score page!

Innovation

There is blood in the game, which could make it to 18+ game :D

I don't actually have anything to say here. It's a reaction game.

Really loved the mechanics

Hilariously dark gameplay and art, and I learned more about esoteric sports!

Geniaalne! Tahaks seda jagada sõpradele

Sellist asja pole küll varem näinud.

Interesting to see something from 'Estonian culture' implemented into a game.

10/10

Can't say I've lived a true kivipall experience before.

Bonus

There isn´t anything too special in the game

Jürto.

Huumor 5+

Lirtsuvad helid olid lihtsalt mõnusad.

Eesti kultuur

I have to give points for the weird obsession Eesti has with putting rocks everywhere.

Going for low "really liked" because there was something just charming enough in the weirdness of it all.
